It was Alan Watts that more or less sparked my spiritual journey. His words have been a beacon for me through my existential struggle. It is through his lectures that I am the person I am today. He will forever be one of my greatest idols and spiritual teachers. As a musician I make classical, ambient music. To me music is the language of the soul. It transcends the limitations of written and spoken languages. However Alan's words seem to me, to have a musical quality. In that they too resonate and soothe my soul.
Less than a year ago I stumbled upon a playlist on YouTube composed by Wiara. It had key snippets of Alan's lectures with some soft piano or classical music. This playlist effectively healed me of all my anxieties and long chronic depression. Not too long after that I found a song by Akira the Don ft Alan Watts called 'Time'. This song is masterfully crafted but it is the words of Alan that are the centerpiece of this epic mantle. I was inspired by this.
I have had the quote in my notes for a long time now and I recently stumbled upon it once more. It is Alan quoting a Zen master saying "The sound of rain needs no translation". This touched me deeply. So I wanted to put it to a song I had made and use Alan's vast eloquence for my humble piece.
Thank you Alan Watts, for everything.
